World Record Requirements

Concept2 reserves the right not to accept a row as a record. For more information contact ranking@concept2.com.

Please let us know if you have broken a record and met the requirements outlined on this page so we can confirm your row and enter the new record on our records page. We do not check the rankings for new results on a daily basis and your notification is appreciated. Thanks!

All records must be single distance or timed pieces (no interval pieces) started from a non-moving flywheel. Accelerated starts from moving flywheels during intervals are not accepted as record times. The indoor rower must be on a level surface.

Weight Requirements

In accordance with regulations from on-water events and indoor rowing championships around the world, lightweights must be weighed in no earlier than two hours before their race. Records from lightweights weighed prior to two hours before their race will not be recognized.

  • Lightweight Women: <= 135lbs (61.5kg)
  • Heavyweight Women: > 135 lbs (61.6kg)
  • Lightweight Men: <= 165lbs (75kg)
  • Heavyweight Men: > 165lbs (75kg)

2000 Meters

All 2000 meter record-breaking times must be rowed at a Concept2 sanctioned indoor rowing event with witnesses present. In addition all 2000 meter record-breaking times must be rowed on Concept2 Indoor Rowers without Slides.

PM3/PM4 Verification Code

Use your PM3 or PM4 to verify any rankable result entered into the ranking, as follows:

  1. Ensure your PM is running the latest version of firmware.
  2. Ensure that the date and time on your PM3/PM4 is accurate.
  3. Set up and row your piece, taking care to set up your workout correctly.
  4. After you have rowed your piece, select (View Detail) for the piece.
  5. On the View Detail screen (either for a workout on the LogCard or in PM Memory), the 4th gray button on the right has no action associated with it. Press this button TWICE. A 16-digit code is displayed in the upper right hand corner of the monitor.
  6. Enter your piece in your Online Logbook, and then click to edit the piece.
  7. Carefully review all the information for your piece. The distance, date and time should appear exactly as it does in the PM or LogCard memory, including tenths of a second. In the PM3/PM4 Verification of Result section, enter your verification code from your Performance Monitor exactly as it appears on your PM.
  8. Click Update.
  9. Now submit your piece to the online ranking. The result Source will be listed as "IND_V" (verified).

Any questions or difficulties, please email ranking@concept2.com.

Team Categories

We recognize records in the following categories for team size:

  • Tandem (2–person)
  • Small team (3–10 people)
  • Large team (over 10 people)

In each of these categories, the team may be men's, women's, or mixed (at least 1/3 men and 1/3 women) and heavyweight or lightweight. Lightweight teams must consist of all lightweight members. Any records achieved by a team of both heavyweight and lightweight rowers will count as a heavyweight record. See above for weight requirements.

Additionally, we recognize records for tandem rows in 10–year age categories: 19 & under, 20–29, 30–39, etc. The age of the younger team member determines the age category of the record, apart from 19 & under where both team members must be in the age category.

Individual Categories

We recognize records for individuals in 10–year age categories: 19 & under, 20–29, 30–39, etc. in both heavyweight and lightweight categories for men and women. Heavyweight is over 165 lbs for men, over 135 lbs for women. Weight should be taken no earlier than two (2) hours before the row.

World records can be set in the same sitting for the Individual Longest Continual Row, the Individual 24-Hour Row and/or the Individual Million Meter Row; however, you must meet the all of the requirements for the records you are attempting. See the requirements for each category below.
